It took a long time for me to accept that putting oil on my face wasn't going to break me out. I had severe cystic acne from the age of I'd say 14 through to 30 until I went on hardcore medications to treat my acne and now I'm dealing with a scarring aftermath. I believe it was The ordinarie's rosehip oil that kind of had me looking at oils differently and then I delved into the kiehls overnight midnight recovery oil and I've never looked back.
However, I did find that most manufacturers and skin care businesses were really focusing on the mainstream oils and I wanted to know what else was out out there. Let me tell you, there are a lot of oils with incredible benefits that we just don't use enough. I mean, I do.....

The background
In recent years, the beauty and skincare industry has witnessed a resurgence in the use of natural ingredients, particularly oils, for promoting skin health. Scientific research has shed light on the efficacy of various oils, showcasing their potential to nourish and rejuvenate the skin. In this article, we deep dive into the scientific benefits of incorporating oils into your skincare routine, focusing on key ingredients such as hemp seed oil, rosehip oil, pomegranate oil, camelina oil, and essential oils supported by clinical evidence.
1. Hemp Seed Oil:
Research indicates that hemp seed oil is rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, providing a balanced lipid profile for the skin. A study published in the "Journal of Dermatological Science" (2015) found that hemp seed oil possesses anti-inflammatory properties, making it beneficial for managing various skin conditions, including eczema and psoriasis.
Baby, that's why it's in our Calm oil.
Rosehip Oil:
Renowned for its anti-aging properties, rosehip oil has gained popularity in skincare routines. A 2015 review in the "Phytotherapy Research" journal highlighted the oil's ability to improve skin elasticity and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The presence of antioxidants, such as vitamin C, contributes to its collagen-boosting effects.
There's also evidence to suggest that it helps with scarring, so those of us who had acne for the majority of our life will do well to add this oil to our skin care routine hence why it's in our Restore oil.
3. Pomegranate Oil:
Rich in polyphenols and antioxidants, pomegranate oil has demonstrated potential in protecting the skin from oxidative stress. Oxidative stress is a physiological imbalance between free radicals and the body's ability to neutralize them, potentially leading to cellular damage. And a free radical is molecule that can cause cellular damage.  A study published in the "Journal of Ethnopharmacology" (2016) suggested that pomegranate oil may aid in promoting skin regeneration and enhancing wound healing.
You you can find this potent oil in our Glow oil and our Restore Oil.

4. Camelina Oil:
Camelina oil, derived from the Camelina sativa plant, has emerged as a promising skincare ingredient. Research in the "Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology" (2019) indicates that camelina oil exhibits moisturizing properties and may contribute to improving skin barrier function, making it a valuable addition to skincare formulations. It's known to be very soothing and is found in our Calm oil.
Look we get it. Adding an oil to your skin can seem  scary and counterintuitive, especially when we link oily skin with acne. However, SISU skin only uses oils with the lowest comedogenic rating, meaning they have the lowest chance of breaking you out with the highest potency and active skin benefits.

Let's wrap it up
As scientific evidence continues to underscore the advantages of incorporating oils into skincare routines, consumers are increasingly turning to nature's botanical wonders for radiant and healthy skin. Whether it's the anti-inflammatory properties of hemp seed oil, the anti-aging effects of rosehip oil, or the antioxidant-rich benefits of pomegranate and camelina oils, the synergy of these natural ingredients offers a holistic approach to skincare. With essential oils providing additional therapeutic qualities, the scientific community continues to explore and validate the transformative potential of oils for optimal skin health.
