Could your make up be hurting your skin?

Could your make up be hurting your skin?

When used well makeup can help to enhance our favorite features, make us look a little less tired and help show off our creativity. As someone who loves art but can't draw to save my life, being able to do a fun eye look is as close to being an artist as I can get.

But here is the thing- there are some makeups that I just know will cause breakouts, redness, irritation and lost lashes.

So I started testing....and testing....and testing, to find the perfect base makeup that looked pretty, skin like and didn't cause clogged pores. When I tell you this was a challenge...I'm not exaggerating.

Firstly, according to all companies their products are absolutely, no doubt about it "non-comedogenic". A quick check of the ingredients showed ethehyxl paltimitate and isopropyl myristate, talc, synthetic fragrance and parabens.

Talc -

What it is:

Talc is a mineral composed mainly of magnesium, silicon, and oxygen.

How it harms: Talc can clog pores, leading to breakouts and acne. When applied to the skin, it can cause dryness and irritation, which over time, might contribute to a more aged appearance. Studies have also suggested potential links between talc and respiratory issues when inhaled, raising concerns about its overall safety in makeup.

Ethylhexyl Palmitate -

What it is: A fatty acid ester derived from palm oil, used as an emollient and thickening agent in cosmetics. -

How it harms: Ethylhexyl palmitate can create a barrier on the skin, leading to clogged pores and acne. Its occlusive nature can trap dirt and bacteria, exacerbating skin conditions. This ingredient is also known to be a potential irritant, causing redness and inflammation, which are precursors to premature aging. It's in TONNES of popular blushes and face powders and has a comedogenic rating of 5/5 - the highest likelihood of breaking you out.

So now we know some of the ingredients to avoid, why do I LOVE The Anybody Cosmetics range?

Simply put- the ingredients. There is nothing that stresses me out about this formula. The only ingredient that is of slight concern is the mica and it's low down the list. It also leaves my skin with a lovely satin matte finish- it's not overly sparkly which is very important in minimizing my texture.

When you're a small business you can't mess around with stocking products you don't believe it. I also can't run the risk of stocking a product that breaks people out in case people think it's my glorious face oil hurting their skin! So I tested this product for months before deciding to stock it.
